Go Skyhawks! - Fear the Feathers

National Cross Country Meet Results

The Sauk Valley Skyhawks ran at the NJCAA National Cross Country Meet in Albuquerque, New Mexico on Saturday. It was a beautiful day to run with temperatures in the 50s for the men and in the 60s for the women's race. The athletes had to deal with the altitude (5000 ft) for the first time which was an adjustment, but they ran well for the conditions. Head Coach, Nick Hartz was proud of how they fought and said they ran great races for those conditions.

On the women's side, Haley Weidner led the Skyhawks with a time of 20:58.76 and finished in 93rd place. Xheneta Beqiri finished next in 198th place with a time of 22:58.05 and was followed by Kelynn Boyle who finished in 238th place with a time of 24:06.37. Nataleigh Nugent was not able to complete the race due to an injury. However, she was still able to make it to the meet and support her teammates. Coach Hartz said, "I was proud of all the athletes and how they ran. It made me extremely happy to see them compete at that high of a level and try to do something at the altitude they were not used to. Haley and Nataleigh will be missed a great deal next year. They provided great leadership for the kids and will continue to do things that will make me proud of them in the future."

On the men's side, Dillion Forbeck led the Skyhawks with a time of 30:25.47 and finished in 287th place. Ruben Leal finished in 32:01.08 which placed him in 321st. We congratulate these young athletes for this opportunity to race in such an amazing environment. They got some valuable experience that will help them fight for a chance to run again at the national meet next year. We are extremely proud of them and happy that they had this experience.
